remove name from joint mortgage

I have a joint mortgage with a friend on a property he lives in and he pays the mortgage payments on the house. The reason i put my name on the mortgage was that he couldn't get it on his own. I now want my name removed from the mortgage, do i have to go the the solicitor and pay the hefty fee or is there a nother easier cheaper way?
By the way he does not miss any payments
thanks

The lender is the one who makes the decision .....they will assess your friends affordability etc to make a decision if this can be changed
  • How long ago did you go on the mortgage, and how have your friends circumstances changed since?

If they havent then you wont be able to come off... more concerning is if your friend ever stops paying it will be you they will be hunting down for payment.

I wouldnt do this for family, never mind a friend.
