String Quartet

Hi everyone,
Me and DF are having a civil ceremony and were thinking of having a string quartet to provide music for the ceremony and drinks reception afterwards. I was wondering if anyone has any idea of the rough cost of this? Also any recommendations in Northern Ireland?
Thanks,
Lauren

Hi,
I've just booked mine and they were £395 for the first hour and £150 for any hours after. Don't know how this compared but they came highly recommended so it helped me know that the price I pay is going to be worth it.
It stopped me and the OH arguing about music too.
How long til pay day?

Yeah, I thought of it as we're having a hard time thinking of what music to have and don't really fancy just playing songs IYSWIM? A string quartet would be lovely I think.0

There is a piano in the lobby where we have drinks, and the hotel has arranged someone to play a bit of 'plinky plinky' music (if you get my meaning!!) and the hotel warned he'd put his prices up for this year to.................................
£35!!!
I replied that I think I can stretch to that
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
Lol! Bargain franny, i'll have to see if there's a piano in wherever we choose, could be a good idea. Just wanted an idea of prices for quartets though x0

I did like the idea of a Quartet, but found none below £350 for first hour. So piano it is!

I have a feeling that might be the case with me as well, but have e-mailed one i liked the look of to find out. Fingers crossed x0

to play a bit of 'plinky plinky' music
Nearly spat my tea out at this!! :rotfl:
I was going to get my friend to play, I asked her to be my bridesmaid and she said "Oh, this will be the first wedding I've not been asked to play at. What a relief". I therefore decided not to ask her and got the trio in instead.
Edit; I can never get my quotes to work properly. Always delete something then can't figure out what I need to put back in to make it work!! :rolleyes:How long til pay day?

Sorry about tea in the keyboard
Venue says he is not a 'concert' level player but just 'tinkles' in the background, which made me snigger like a child thinking he will wee in the corner!! One thing I noticed at wedding fairs is that Quartets actually are quite loud, so for just the 30 of us a bit of 'plinky plink' will be fine!!:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
Hiya - we have booked our string Trio (trio cost a bit less than quartet but sounded almost exactly the same!)...... they are fab and have played for the Queen, on telly, for the G8 summit leader reception thingy and lots of other stuff! I explained that i would need them for 2hours and 45 mins (to include travelling from church to reception venue, so an hour ish at church plus hour ish at drinky reception!) and that all i could afford was £350. So thats what i am paying! They are REALLY accomodationg and so friendly, down to earth etc! Gosh, i sound like i get paid to advertise them PMSL!!!!

I have to say i thought £350 was alot of money for nearly 3 hours.... obviously not! I feel pretty lucky now! :j
These are mine - http://bellinistrings.com/index.phpBaldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0 -
Crumbs, these quartets do charge a lot of money. I was wondering if maybe a local college's music department students could lend a hand? I remember when I was in the school choir ( many moons ago) a group of us were asked to sing at the church, we didn't receive payment, we were so chuffed to be asked. But I think there may be many music students strapped for cash and glad to earn a bit extra? Might be worth a thought. Happy weddings everyone!!
