I'm off to Prestatyn tomorrow for our 4 day break.:T
Breakfast - weetabix for kids, toast/butter/jam for parents
Lunch - cheese sandwiches/salad/toasties
tea - Chicargo town pizzas (thanks to the tesco offer),
spag bol (I'm going to make in a few mins)
beans/spagetti on toast
pasta/cheese/veggies combination (not sure what at the minute!)
couple of takeaways if needed
extras - crisps, choc biccies, apples, bananas, yogurts
I've done a search on https://www.asda.co.uk & https://www.tesco.co.uk to find the closest stores to the camp and their opening times. So if we need extras then we can go there instead of the over-priced on site shop.
If anyone has any suggestions to my plan - please suggest away!!0 -
I have a square plastic box that my daughters children call Granny's caravan box .We go every year to Caistor for a week with five of my little poppets.I save all the freebie sugars, salt 'n'peppers and coffee's tubes and even the ketchup sachets from Maccy'D's and it saves us taking them in bottles etc. Any free samples that I get off the boards I take .I have 8 little pots of jam that a friend gave me last week from her holiday in Dorset.
It is surprising how these little freebies mount up. We use them up as we go along. I also have an other box that I put the complimentary soap.hair conditioner, shampoo, and shower gel that I get from different hotels that I have stayed in over the year. I always take my own toiletries anyway. The little ones love having their own special toiletries in a small size . I also have some extra baby-wipes in each pocket of the doors of my car as it saves taking rolls of paper towels and when we travel any small accidents can be wiped up quickly. With my grandchildrens ages ranging from 13 down to 2 we have to cater for all emergencies so I always have a box of plasters and some Savlon .
We take two cars and share the kids out between us . The older ones usually come with me as they tend to argue with the little ones too much..On site shops are notoriously expensive so we save our Tesco coupons up from Christmas togeter and you can usually find a Tesco's not too far from anywhere. Last year we had over £100.00 in coupons and that paid for quite a lot of the fresh food for several days . There are three adults and five children to cater for so it does help no end. We have discovered that finger food is a lot easier in a caravan and the children love having picnic food instead of their normal meat and three veggies. It doesn't hurt them for a week, and gives my DD a break from cooking as well. We all have a great time and the children love going there .The beach is right next to the site and kite-flying is taken very seriosly there. Cards, and a bat 'n'ball are good to take as well. We usually manage to have a weeks holiday for 8 for very little outlay.0 -
Take plenty of drinks if you go to a holiday camp. I'm sure some are better than others but we went to Butlins in Bognor Regis once when I was a kid (wouldn't recomend it, food was horrible, pool was filthy, chalets looked delapidated) and you couldn't buy anything to drink that wasn't alcoholic or fizzy. You might have been able to get tea and coffee too but I wasn't interested in that when in was 11. I could have killed someone for a glass of fruit juice or milk by the end of the week.0
