Hi all,

I recently realised that i'd been filling in my Self Assessment returns in wrong and am owed money. Gentleman from HMRC told me over the phone how to go about getting a refund and I dug out all the relevant forms and sent them off 2 weeks ago. I know they are going to be busy with the online returns but roughly how long can I expect to wait for the refund? Weeks? Months?

Many thanks in advance

  • I assume you are talking about previous years Tax Returns (ie pre 2008-09). You are therefore claiming 'error or mistake' relief and this will have to be dealt with by a Tax Inspector - it will not just 'go through the system'. Provided you have sent all of the relevant documentation and there is no contention from the Revenue I still think you will be lucky to see any repayment within 6 weeks.

Thanks Rolo, yes its 'error or mistake' pre 2008-2009. Thanks for your reply.
