Im a first time buyer, mortgage agreed and ready to go. Ive seen a house im interested in and the sellers have told me they are looking to sell and the house and rent somewhere until they find somewhere they want to buy.

If i were to propose they sold to me, then rented off me for a set time, or until they found somewhere. How does all the legal mumbo jumbo effect this? Would i be required to do a buy to let? Or could this be agreed in another way?

I would be surprised if your solicitor advised you to do this. You would have to set up a proper tenancy agreement with all the stuff that goes with it (gas safety cert, EPC, tax, insurances etc), or you may be dealing with squatters rights; they may not vacate at the end of the agreement so you would need to go to Court to get the evicted; what if they trash the house whilst they are there (they no longer have a financial interest in it); will your mortgage lender agree to this - you may not meet the conditions of the mortgage offer. There are so many pitfalls personally I wouldn't go down that route
