hi posting an update.
Phoned HMRC first thing and got speaking to someone straight away which was great, anyway, after answering numerous questions to confirm myself explained i was confused by code which the person i spoke to didn't understand why it would confuse me. I explained i've paid my full rate of tax every year and only have one job. And eventually said oh it's ok i'll get it sorted just a glitch on computer. So problem will be sorted and will receive a new coding notice in post.
Although i know not the person on phones fault i really did want to question the whole muck up but i'm exhausted after an awful night at work so never mind, main thing is i don't owe any tax and will be able to sleep sound today without the worry!!!! :j
Thanks for everyones help0 -

Looks like this board is going to get busy so the advice to everybody is CHECK YOUR CODING NOTICE as soon as you receive it and not wait until your first paypacket :money:0 -
They must (from the few reports on here of Code Numbers bearing little relation to circumstances) already be getting a lot of adverse feedback. But, as usual, it's unlikely to result in a public declaration of 'Whoops' on their website.
Which currently says :Because of improvements introduced by the new system, HMRC expects more people than usual to receive a PAYE Coding Notice for 2010-11.
.......... so that adds to the worry then!If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I too got a confusing tax code notice this weekend. I had a suspicion that P11D data had been used from a few tax years ago. The person I spoke to confirmed they are having problems with the new computer system pulling through old data, and there is a promise to revise my tax code accordingly (I wait to see what the next version looks like).
So my recommendation would be to ask HMRC to check their data as soon as you get your tax code notification.I'm a Financial Planner0 -
But you check it yourself first .... as you always should? Pointless asking HMRC to check something - hopefully the majority - if it's OK. And just getting in the way of others who genuinely need changes made?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

It is now official.
Another system put live with faulty data.
