Hi and welcome! It's nice to have another Notts bride! There is lots to do but you have 18 months to do it all!
the only other thing i will add is you will need to give notice at the register office. (giving notice is declaring your intention to marry, it's the civil equivilant of having your banns read) This can be done one year in advance of the wedding date, and will cost you £30 each (although the price is increasing from April to £33.50 each).
Any other questions to do with the register office side of things and i can help! (I'm a Registrar!)
Congrats on nearly getting engaged!0 -
Aww Thank You!!! I'm a little confused about the registery office stuff we live in wilford which means we pays our tax to Nottingham city council but we want to get married in the west bridgford office because its closer but thats in Nottinghamshire isn't it?? What do you do?0

OK if you pay your council tax to city then you will need to go to Shakespeare Street in Nottingham to give notice.
Once you have given notice it will be displayed at Shakespeare Street for 15 days. Once the 15 days has passed (and there has been no legal objections) they will issue blue forms called authorities or certificate for marriage. You will then need to take these to West Bridgford who will conduct your ceremony. They are really friendly in WB! And its a lovely room and the gardens/park are lovely outside! (i actually got engaged in the park on a suprise picnic!)
You will need to conatct WB to book your wedding date as that is where you want to get married and you will need to contact Shakespeare Street to give notice. I would contact WB first and book the date! They will then tell you about giving notice, who to contact etc (but its pretty much what i just said!)
Hope that helps!

It CAN be done!
Firstly you have to decide what kind of wedding you want!
Either Church or Registry
How many guests would you like at the Ceremony?
Would you like a meal afterwards or just a big party?
I've known people get married in a registry office, then go for a meal in a favourite restaurant and then have big party (first part for about 10 - 30 people) in the evening.
Also been to a wedding where they had the registry office for 50 people then had a big party straight after (4pm wedding) with more guests turning up at about 7 - 8pm.
You can do WHATEVER you like!
Are you a dress person? Some people are desperate for THE dress, whereas some are not so bothered. You can pay £50 - £2000 for your dress

We're in same situation right now - giving notice to one council but booking registrar with another. We provisionally booked venue to ensure availability (held for 14 days to sort registrar out) then rang register office of county in which we are having civil ceremony as that's where registrar will need to come from - to ensure they were available for our chosen date. They then informed us they would hold that booking for 30 days in which time we needed to go give notice at the registrar of council to whom council tax is paid (we're at that stage this Friday!) - once we've given notice, documents will need to be forwarded (either by us or by local council registrar - they've each said different!!) to registrar who will be marrying us to confirm their booking and hence then venue booking can be confirmed and deposit paid!! Don't know if we're doing it right but it seems to be making sense...hope that helps!MARRIED MR E - 22nd Dec 2010 - technically now sazzye!:j
