Savoury Rice

Hi

Can anyone give me a recipe for Savoury Rice?

I love the packets from the supermarket (either to cook from scratch or the ones in the pouches that you just bung in the microwave) but surely it must be loads cheaper to make your own.

I really have no idea how to start, I'm not very good at doing boiled rice never mind different flavours!

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Someone will be along with a definitive recipe soon, but in the meantime I would imagine boiling the rice in stock (veg or chicken) instead of water, along with some chopped up veg (carrots, peas, sweetcorn) etc would be a good start.

  • I make special fried rice, boil some rice in a pan, 75g per person.
In a wok or frying pan soften some finely chopped onion, & a couple of sliced mushrooms in little oil, add cooked rice, add a handfull of frozen peas, chinese 5 spice, pepper, soy sauce, worcestershire sauce, stir until everything is hot & mixed. You can add a littler cooked meat & some slices of cooked sliced egg, omlette style, not hard boiled.

Add some Turmeric to the water to make the rice yellow & cook as HH said above.
