Looking for an engagement ring...

hi, I've narrowed down the choice to two. Could be either of these, what do you think?
The only problem with both of these is they aren't certificated, so don't really know the quality of the diamonds. Does anyone know where I could get the same rings, but with certificated diamonds? Just a case of getting the best diamonds for my money now, and then choose between the two.

The first is:
http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/detail/R/4337182/
£1500

or

http://www.hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/detail/R/5363039/
£1500

Suggestions of websites with the same rings, but with customised diamonds gratefully received!

    Wow, what a lucky lady.

If you buy from either of the above sites, Quidco offer 16% for Earnest Jones ad 14.5% for H Samuels. Although I dont know if I would be willing to make a purchase like this online?

I would recommend Goldsmiths and Beaverbrooks too. My husband and I both bought a Tag watch for a big (uh hum) birthday recently, one from each of the above. Both were very willing to give us a discount-I think we got about 10-15%. Not sure about their diamond certification, but I recall seeing information on both of them about diamond quality and also where they obtain their diamonds from.

My only other thought is to see if you can get to a Costco. THey sell beautiful jewellery, and I would imagine they are very competitive. I think their jewellery comes with certificates.

I hope you know your GF is going to say yes!!

  • Why dont you contact some of the jewellers in the Jewellery Quarter at Birmingham most of them would make the exact ring that you are looking at.

You would get a much better ring for your money at probably a fraction of the price. Both my engagement ring and our wedding rings came from there (I am biased though as I'm a Brummie).

There is a website called thediamondstore.co.uk, I've never bought anything but their jewellery looks lovely. I just happen to have them in my bookmarks incase my husband decides to peek.

If you are near enough to London, why not spend an afternoon browsing the jewellers in Hatton Garden ? You might be better off buying the diamond and then having it set.

Enjoy shopping anyway. Congrats on the engagement

  • Both lovely!
Are there any independant jewellers near you, I have been in my local one while rings have been getting picked and they are very knowledgeable, might be worth going in and asking if they could get you something similar

yes an engagement ring is one of those item that has special meaning so when it arrives in a jiffy bag mail order its not quite the same as choosing in a sparkly shop!

at the end of the day its just the same when you put it on her finger though...

would a high street jeweller be able to match the best online prices?

best of luck with the engagement!

Lovely rings but as you say, you don't know the quality which is really important. I work for in a fine jewellery shop and can honestly say most customers would prefer great quality, smaller diamonds than huge rocks which are bad quality. The brilliance and sparkle of a good diamond is so beautiful.

We have had lots of customers bring in their own diamonds purchased online and then we set them for them. I would suggest blue nile http://www.bluenile.co.uk/build-your-own-three-stone-ring. You can design your own 3 stone ring and customise the diamonds to your budget.
