A combination of living beyond my means from Uni til I met my DH, getting maried was relatively cheap as the parents paid, but buying our home took the final blow, £10000 alone on the deposit and furniture and doing the place up (new windows and doors), when I was on a much lower income than I had been used to, now we're paying for it when we should be enjoying the extra money we earn, oh well, only about 18 months and we should be Debt Free!Debt free 11/05/11!

Just by not managing money properly and only making minimum payments therefore always adding to the debt.
Definitely agree with that
It is only when we struggled to meet the minmum payments we realised how bad we were with our money

starting a business, didn't take a wage for 18 months, living off credit cards to pay rent etc. Thought money would come through quick enough to not hit a dead end. It didn't and luckily CCCS helped me get back on track. Almost 4 years into the business, it's paying off, and looks like the debts will soon be gone and the rewards appropriate to the effort put in.0

For me it was a number of things: buying a car and uni £12k then 12 months later finding out I had to move south in order to finish my training for my job so sold the car to help reduce costs. Moving down south and taking a pay cut to qualify in my job was £4k, buying a flat and the associated costs £5k. I guess my motto was "for everything else there's a credit card"...I wonder if I can claim any rights to the mastercard catchphrase as am sure I used it first!! Am almost there now and am looking forward to the day I can say I am DEBT FREE!Debt: LBM = Oct 07 - £21k. Mine was mainly trying to live a lifestyle that I didn't earn enough to have.
Strange thing is now I am debt free and buy far less "things" I am actually happier

mine was simple, being privileged to have a fairly well paying job and getting cocky, thinking I could afford what I wanted.
Also, getting bailed out of debt with a loan and carrying on spending, piling it all up!Total debt as of 16-1-09: £23223.27
Est'ed debt free date: Dec 2013 :cool:0
