can i freeze home made rice pudding ?

hi there i have just bought a 6.5 slow cooker and have done a lovely veg soup in it with good results. i am now going to do a rice pudding but need to know if i can freeze what we don't eat today or tomorrow.

i will be using skimmed or semi skimmed milk if that helps .

thanks in advance as my thanks button doesn't seem to work :-)

  • Dont normally jump on thjis thread-but can answer your question from my own experience. I've made rice pudding loads of times and fozen the left overs. Always worked and tasted just fine.

    Hope that helps!
  • brilliant that's what i was hoping for !! thankyou x
  • No problem. By the way I make mine in my slow cooker and its great. What I do is when its not quite as thick as I would like-I turn it off and take the bowl out and put it on the side on top of a teatowel because the heat can make it cook further and make it thicker.
  • ok thanks .do you use the same quantities of everything as you would in the oven or do you use less liquid ?

You must be very restrained in your house.. there would absolutely NEVER be any 'leftover' rice pudding in my house...:rotfl:

EDIT: I meant to add that I found when I made it with semi-skimmed milk it never thickened up so well so now I do half and half full fat and skimmed and its delectable , hence never any leftovers...

there wouldn't usually here either but i am going to make double as i am doing it in my huuuge slow cooker :-)

i have to make 3 pints of milk's worth usually as my partner eats loads of it !
  • To be honest in regards to quanitites I just follow what it says on the packet. Sometimes cant be bother with that-just throw it in by eye. I tend to keep an eye on it. Ifd it looks too thick, I add more milk.If it looks abit runny, throw in more rice. You can go wrong with it.Only thing that I would say is make sure you add flavor. I always put in plenty of cinnamon and nutmeg and vanilla essence-but thats my personal likes.

As for left overs-I always make loads and its only me that its it.I'm sure that will change now as my son its EVERYTHING at nearly 8 months old and as for my other half-if the rice pudding isnt in a tin and made by Ambrosa, he wont touch it!More fool him and more for me:j
