CSA more than Income Support

Hello all

I am on income support and in receipt of carers allowance.

I have just recently received an assessment as to how much my sons dad is to pay csa a week. The weekly amount is £40 but because he is in arrears as he jumped ship the 1st time around he has to pay an additional £69 on top.

Now I know that I will be able to keep £20 a week of this but the problem I have and hope someone can help is I only get £18 a week income support.

I have my carers allowance deducted from IS and also a couple of weekly repayments leaving me with this small amount.

I spoke to IS and they said that I would keep all the CSA but deduct pound for pound from my IS what im not entitled to.

Im confused as to what will happen, will they stop my IS? if so this will mean it will have an affect on housing and council tax benefit.

Please help.

Thanks

it looks like they look at your entitlement to IS not what you actually get - so deductions are ignored. The first £20 child support is ignored, then if overall you are entitled to over £20 per week income support but are only getting £18 due to deductions, they will keep you on income support, but you won't actually get any cash.

Mitzey just to clarify you should get:

How much the law says you need to live on
Income Support: £64.30 = for you
    : £29.50 = caring for someone
    Total: £93.80

Income you told us about: £53.10 = Carers allowance

The weekly amount you will receive:
The amount the law says you need to live on £93.80
Less the income you told us about £53.10
total amount of Income Support = £40.70 per week

So you should be getting £40.70 pw on IS but they are taking deductions which leaves you with £18 pw.

IS should not be taking any arrears into account! They should only be taking the regular amount of child support into account.

Your csa payment schedule will say something along these lines: Regular child maintenace = £40 arrears = £69 payable to you = £109 (am I correct)

Can you confirm if this is a weekly amount, or monthly amount?

Hi, yes I can confirm that the amount of £109 is a weekly amount.

    £40.00 Maintenance
    £69 Arrears

    Thank you

If you were not on income support for the time that the arrears built up, those arrears will also be ignored as far as IS is concerned.

I wonder how it would affect a PWC if the NRP won big on the lotto as the CS value would increase.

only the interest would be used as income, not the net figure.
