Torn between 2 songs to walk down the aisle to!

What are you walking down the aisle to.. something traditional, are you having someone play the organ, are you having a less traditional song, having a cd etc??

We both cannot decide what song to have as I walk down the aisle.
We are torn between two very different ideas.. Barry Louis Polisar - All I Want is You, or do we have the organist play Pachelbel's Canon? We haven't stuck to much tradition for the rest of the wedding, we have tried to add our own little touch to everything, but we just can't decide whether to go traditional for this part, or have something a little more jolly!

  • I'm not going totally traditional either, we have changed a few things to suit us (no best man's speech, but I'm giving a speech, no groom side/bride side or table plans, people can sit where they like etc) but I'm having Canon in D for the walk down the aisle, it's just beautiful, I've just got to be careful it doesn't make me cry before we've even started! lol

    My two pennies worth.....

Love All I want is you, it made me smile and is a bit different.
Not sure how long the aisle is or whether it would fade well. Are you planning to listen to the whole thing? also it does conjure up an image of skinny dipping!
    on the other hand....
Canon in D Major is an absolutely stunning piece of music which makes me feel so emotional ( I always cry at weddings anyway)

I'd be sure you're happy with the organists version as it sounds like a complex piece, nothing wrong with having your own CD of it instead as I think the strings make it sound beatiful. You don't know a string quartet who could play it for you, do you?
Sorry getting carried away now, I love weddings and my own was nearly 25 years ago!:D
We went with the traditional (which make me cry as well!) :o
  • Hiya - i am still deliberating but am pretty sure i shall be having Canon in D...i am having a string quartet for the wedding so they wll be providing all the music at the ceremony and the drinks reception (they have to hot foot it for a 20minute drive to our venue after the church lol!) My h2b doesnt want Canon cos he says everyone uses it.....it IS rather overused and thats all thats putting me off it at the moment but i do like it and cant think of anything else lol!!!
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?
  • Hmm I'd go for the more traditional Canon in D Major - the first one reminds me of a (car?) advert and it would probably be the same for most of your guests! Shame.

i had heard clair de lune by debussy and i think it is absolutely beautiful, buut i dont think it is a song to walk down the aisle to, so were having it whilst we sign the registrar.

were having whiter shade of pale, just the music played on a piano for the walk down the aisle

jillymit: I hadn't really thought of all those things to be honest, you've certainly pointed out some things that will help with the decision :) the aisle isn't very long at all, so I never really thought about the length of the song, if I will listen to the whole song etc! I don't know a string quartet, not sure we could budget that in.. even though it would be beautiful. I may see if we could hear the organist first, might help with some decisions.

bigmomma: the song is used a lot, but it is beautiful.. I wouldn't let that put you off if you love the song, every time I look for other songs, this one always come back to me!

superfran: lol, it is true that most people will probably recognise it from the advert with the skinny dipping which is a shame, but on the other hand.. it could make them smile :)

thanks for your help guys x

    Hi,

I had Pachabels Cannon to walk in to, Somewhere over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakiowe (not sure on the spelling) and to sign the register we had Snow Patrol Chasing Cars and Run

  • I had a very simple piano version of Cannon in D to walk in to, and then Clive and I walked out to a full orchestral version of the same song. It was a nice symbolism for me...
