Cleaning a lawnmower (Flymo) - What's the best method?

Also, what tools should I use to best clean it?

Thanks

Well I once heard that to get grass off the blad just spray it with WD40. Not sure if it is true because I have never tried it, but must be worth a shot!

Cool, I will give that a shot on the blades. Thanks for that one.

I'm also wondering about the general 'undercarriage' too.

OH's cousins own a lawnmower business.
Many a time I've seen them use a jetwash to clean the mowers.
I suppose you would have to take all the usual precautions when doing this....dont have the mower plugged in , let it completely dry before using it etc etc

..oh !...and wear goggles in case a piece of grass flies up and catches you in the eye
...and wellies, use these to keep the feet dry...stop athletes foot or similar.
..hard hat....dont want any rocks fallin on you whilst your cleaning the mower.:rotfl: :rotfl:

  • We use a small piece of wood, this is sufficient for the underneath, getting rid of all the stuck on grass and then brush the odd remaining bit of grass of afterwards

Wallpaper scraper or if you have one, a 1" wide paint scraper is best. Not much sticks to the blade anyway and don't ever bother trying to sharpen it because it's unnecessary, it doesn't rely on being sharp but simply on speed to cut the grass.

always clean straight after the mowing session, that way the cut grass doesn't dry out and stick everywhere!

I use a three inch paint brush to sweep away the grass on top of the Flymo.
I then turn the flymo over...power disconnected..then use a knife to take off
the grass that has stuck to the sides. If I have been lazy and not cleaned the
underside previously then the knife really is required to remove the grass that
has stuck.I keep the paint brush and knife in a plastic container next to where
the flymo is kept in the garden shed.
