My h2b has made me doubt the birdcage ( i loved it in the shop lol!)

Also, they wont be cheap :o birdcages are £9.99 each as are the wreaths.....so excluding the candle (which is only 80p so it makes me feel better to leave it out!!!) the total for each table centre piece would be £20.

And i am having 7 tables. So that'd be £140. OUCH! But i really like it lol! hmmmmm......Plus i would have to do something for the top table a bit different so that not included.......but the £140 is the MAIN bulk......

Argghhhh!!!

    In all honesty, I'm undecided.

I love the old fashioned wooden birdcages that are all 'distressed' and worn looking, but this one looks quite pristine and I think that's what putting me off?

Also, are you carrying on with the theme elsewhere? I'd say that birdcage type centrepiece puts me in mind of shabby-chic, Cath Kidston type style, is this being done elsewhere or is everything else really modern?

  • I'm not overly keen on the birdcage but I really like the candle and the wreath, you've done a great job on them. T'is a bit pricey though....we gave up and spent the centrepiece money in Hawkins Bazaar and put games and toys on the tables!

To be honest, there is no "theme" apart from the colour scheme - ivory, green, brown and gold.... but i do LOVE shabby chic and i also am a bit of a CK fan lol....so i guess its My kind of thing!

Oh and Chelbel - i put it together in the florists wholesalers...whipped handy cam out and had to put it down on floor to take pic....i think the golden eggs are golden egg candles which were there obviously to be purchased...by the The Giant, who is missing the golden eggs his Golden Goose lays...... ;)

Maybe if you put in some sort of floral detail I think it would tie it together. Also, could you experiment with sandpapering some parts of the cage, as I think the distressed look would just give it the edge.

On looking a second time, it also seems to have too many flowers at the bottom, makes it a bit clumped?

  • Floral detail like...? LOL  I know what you mean about distressing BUT i am worried as i wouldnt want to wreck them... i can only afford to buy what i need and if i ruin one, i wont be able to get more cos i am having to order them in bulk...so cant have just one.

With the flowers, i can see what you mean, but i think its just the way i have taken the phot to be honest as the flowers were all pretty evenly spaced etc...i took it at funny angle from above so thats what it is i think!

They are not my taste, but I do love the idea of the candles. I've gone for some fresh flowers, bought the vases from the wholesaler and the florist is filling them for £8 a cube. I'm planning on giving them to relatives afterwards so they double up as presents!
Thanks for the advice Martin! :money:

  • Hi again bigmomma!

Have to be honest, I'm not too sure :( I suspect either the birdcage with some 'softer' flowers and a white candle to tie it all in OR lose the birdcage and just keep the flowers (which are lovely!) and candle would be more elegant - all together it doesn't quite seem to 'gel', but its up to you! Is your heart set on the birdcage idea? Could you use a big glass lantern style holder for the candle with the wreath of flowers round instead?

    Maybe something like this:

with the flowers around the base? It's sort of like a birdcage and might add an extra glow to your candle as its a lantern? - let me know if thats a horrendous idea btw

I like the birdcage, not sure about the gold candle and I think that there are more flowers than you need, it's all a bit busy if you know what I mean. Too much going on. A cream candle and maybe just foliage around the base might simplify it a bit. It's not easy is it?
