Does anyone else think this odd?

I applied for a job, through a job website, on Tuesday night and the following day I got a phone call offering me an interview.

It was hoped that the interview could take place this week but because of various factors, not least the snow, its now been arranged for next week.

Does anyone else think this is fast - its quite a well paid job (£20,000+) - I mean usually you wait weeks to hear anything, if at all.

What would you be wary of, if anything, if you were me?

I don't think it's strange at all!!! Many organisations - especially agencies - review job applications as they come in, rather than waiting for a set date. My experience has never been to wait many weeks to hear back - in fact, I don't think I've ever had to wait more than a week. They may not have had many applicants, or they may need to fill it quickly. Equally, they may really like you!

I think you're worrying because it's not your past experience of job applications - but I think you're worrying about something that's not there! Well done for getting an interview, and if you're worried, ask questions at the interview about the start date, how long the post has been vacant etc. :)

I agree with KiKi. Not strange really.

If you haven't already, do a bit of research on the employer. Always useful to get a sense of the 'brand' and to appear knowlegeable in that 'Is there anything you want to ask us?' moment.

    Good luck!
Opinion, advice and information are different things. Don't be surprised if you receive all 3 in response. :D

Like KiKi says, it's not unheard of. Slightly unusual, but toally do-able. I arranged my last job through an agency, and everything happened so quickly that I was unable to give my full 1-week's notice to my previous employer (thankfully, they were OK with it). I'd applied on a Monday, interviewed on a Wednesday, offered the job the same day, and started at the new place the following Monday.

The only instance in which I'd be suspicious is if the job description was misleading. A common theme is for door-to-door sales jobs to be 'sold' as £25k+ jobs, and usually come with an immediate interview, and immediate start. If it's nothing like that, just count yourself lucky :)

    Good luck x

I'm not "picking up any bad vibes" here either.

Check it out carefully - as you've been advised - but why not take a look at it? It might be suitable...you never know...

    Good luck.

No it's not odd, especially if it's the sort of job where you have a niche skill and they need someone quickly because someone left suddenly. At least if they are keen they will get you interviewed and hopefully give you an answer more quickly.

Don't think it's odd - you could have got lucky and they need someone in a hurry - or maybe they are just very efficient.

For hubby's recent job, he phoned on the Friday, got an interview on the Tuesday, offered the job on the Wednesday and started the following Monday. The less messing about the better, I reckon.

    congratulations and good luck.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Agree with the other posts that it isn't odd at all, employers may often need to fill a post quickly. Was there a closing date for applications or was it open?
    Good luck with the interview.
  • Thanks guys - it was just the speed of everything that was bothering me, especially when you apply for jobs and don't hear anything at all!

There was no closing date as such - it was advertised on monday so to send in an application on Tuesday night and get a phone call Wednesday was slightly un-nerving,lol!

FIngers crossed - if i did get the job it would make the climb up that mountain alot easier!
