but pertinent to Norn Iron.
We have all received the Electoral Registration Form today and we have no trouble completing most of it but can anyone tell me why they need our National Insurance numbers?
What has that got to do with our right to vote?

According to the EONI website, http://www.eoni.org.uk/index/faqs/registration-faqs.htm, this is required by law so I suspect it's part of their voting fraud clampdown?Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

Only people who are alive have a NINO and everybody's NINO is unique to them. It enables the EONI to check your form and ensure you are not trying to gain fraudulent votes.0

I don't mind them trying to combat fraud but the full electoral register can be purchased by various groups which includes some populated by convicted criminals.
The form only allows you to stipulate that you don't want your details published on the edited register which is the one which is available to those people who can end up sending you junk mail.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Only the edited version (which you can opt out of) can be bought.
Only certain people and organisations may obtain copies of the full Register and they may only use it for specified purposes. These include:- electoral purposes;
- crime prevention and detection;
- to enable credit reference agencies to fulfil their obligations under Money Laundering Regulations and to allow for the vetting of applicants for credit or applications which could result in granting credit.

Anyone can view the full register though - so any information you provide can be seen by anyone who looks for it.0
