Griddle pan/plate, how to use and clean?

I'm a very lucky girl and last week took delivery of a flashy cooker complete with a griddle plate.....after 2 uses the non stick came off ruining the eggs and bacon, i've been send another one which would have cost me £80 if i had to pay, but they sent it as a gester of good will.

Can anyone tell me how to use and clean the damn thing?

I know to use a low heat, plastic tongs etc, don't scrub with a scourer pad, which is what i did in the first place.....did i not oil it enough?

Haven't used the new one yet, am i meant to do something to it first? the instructions are useless.

Advice may depend on what it's made off - cast iron, teflon etc. - does the specification that hopefully came with the instructions tell you?
