Thank you JasX and VanillaDelia(I like your username) for your replies.
Unfortunately my husband has had four lots of eye surgery over the last few years. He needs special lenses and also a heavy frame. He works in a laboratory and on sites that require safety glasses. I think last time he must have chosen a more expensive frame as the bill is usually around £400. His prescription needs changing every few months.

Thanks Mehefin. I think this time he decided to get new frames as he had had the others for a while.

He'd be better off buying ordinary glasses and wearing clear goggles on top?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving, Gardening, and Crafting boards.

His safety glasses are prescription lenses in a heavy frame but his day to day glasses have thick lenses not just for safety but because his eyesight is poor from all the surgery. Only certain types of frame will support these lenses. I would think that putting clear goggles on top of ordinary glasses wouldn't be allowed on the type of sites he work on. Plus I think he would feel selfconcious doing this.
