Forced to sell house??
Graziani
I have a mortgage but am in the position of now being unemployed. In the event that I don't find another job, I have enough savings to keep me going for around 1 year.
Should I still not have found a job after 1 year (and the cash dried up), would I then be forced to sell my house?
I suspect that the answer might be yes because I have heard that Housing Benefit is not available to those with mortgages.
Thank you!!
PS: I have just joined and have no idea if this was the correct section to post in - feel free to move it if it isn't

Sorry to hear of your situation. I'm sure that someone with the right information will be along soon.
In the meantime browse the DFW and Moneysaving old style boards to make the money you have go a long way.

No you wouldn,t be forced to sell or house , we was in a similar postion as you still are 4 years later. If you are claiming income support you will get some or all of your interest paid depends how much it is. If yuo are not claiming income support put in for it , if they say no ask about the 10 pence claim this so that you can claim mortgage benefit. Seems strange I know but its the way to get you on the system if you are not on the system you won't get the benefit.0

While you are right to look a year ahead, focus your energies very strongly on getting that new job.I have a mortgage but am in the position of now being unemployed. In the event that I don't find another job, I have enough savings to keep me going for around 1 year.
It will happen. Life will be better in the new job than it was in the old. Enjoy the new challenges that the new job will bring.
There may be some knock backs between now and then. Don't let them get you down, however much they hurt. Keep focused and it will come good for you.
I wish you the best of luck - remember everything that's good about you and go out and show a prospective employer why they need it!

Adjusting your spending appropriately and ensuring you get all the benefits that you are entitled to is a great start.
Here's a couple of links to survey survey sites that can top up your income a tad (look at them after you've got your CV and benefits sorted out though - these sites are for the moments of boredom that unemployment brings!).

The government might not force you to sell it but wouldn't the mortgage company come after it? Sorry to be pessimistic but isn't that what happens when you can't pay the mortgage?
I have a BTL and wondering if you can be forced to sell that? My husband is potentially facing redundancy if thhings don't pick up at his work.0
