Bankruptcy and working on a cruise ship

Hi,
I have searched the forum but have not found any advice pertaining to my exact problem.
I shall be working abroad on a cruise ship on a six month on/six week off contract. I will be paid cash in hand and not pay any tax in the UK. When i apply to go bankrupt (during my 6 week break in november time).

My quesiton is this:
What shall I put down as income, nil? I estimate i will have about £2000 in savings (cash) to bring back, do i just declare this and put income as £0?
I will be filling the forms in online, I will not own a house (or car) at this point.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer

Your income would just be what you are getting paid
Hi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

  • Sorry, I was unclear. I will be paid cash in hand, not put through a bank account and when i go bankrupt (during my 6 weeks off) I will technically be unemployed as that contract will have finished. There will be a 99% chance of me getting another contract (for a further 6 months) but strictly speaking i would be unemployed.
Do i enter my minimum possible wage based on the assumption that i get another contract?

    Thanks for your response

ahh, thats clearer, As you will not have an income at the date of the bankruptcy order you will need to put zero down on the forms (or what ever benefits you might be getting) the OR will ask you about it at the interview and you can explain then that you will likely be getting more work soon

On your break you say you will be going BR in november, is that this year or has it happened:confused:
  • Hi debtinfo, thanks for the information, that clears that up nicely. To be honest i forgot about the interview where i would have a chance to explain it :o

sizzler - I plan on it being November this year. The reason i can't do it yet is that i'm still employed in another job and going BR would seriously jeapordize that, so i want to have an overseas contract under my belt before i take the plunge.

    Thanks again for your help
