Banana loaf cake goes down well in lunchboxes here, if he'll eat that. It's also fairly solid so it holds up well in lunchboxes. Also, what about homemade jelly (as opposed to bought pots) in which you could suspend strawberries or grapes, perhaps? Tesco sell little lidded tubs for one portion quite cheaply. Good luck!December GC: £3500

Just gone through some of these ideas with him and he is quite excited!
We have decided on a pasta, sweetcorn and red onion salad for tomorrow. Also fancies the muffins and jelly but that will have to wait until next week as I will have to go shopping.
Thanks for you help guys!

Have you thought about Bento...it's a great way to use lovely food shapes and pictures for packed lunches.

Awww that Bento stuff is so cute. Might have a try of that.
Just to let you all know my Jack took his packed lunch in on Friday consisting of :
A small (1 slice) ham sandwich with rocket (Yep, he ate rocket!)
A small pot of pasta salad with a sauce he made himself in the blender (tomato, red onion, red pepper, carrot and garlic)
A homemade chocolate and honey cornflake cake.
A fromage frais.
AND an apple.
He ate the lot - every bit!
Today I also made the sausage rolls with chopped carrot and strawberry jelly with real strawberries in the bottom. (He sampled both and loved them!)
He has these for lunch tomorrow along with more of the pasta salad (we froze the sauce!) and another ham sarnie with rocket.
I think we may have cracked the case.
Thanks so much for everyones advice and ideas.

I meant to say, I will also be trying the rest of the ideas on here over the next week or so, so if anyone has any other ideas, please let me know.

Hi Squelchy,
sounds like you`ve made a good job of it, so glad that everythings worked out well and it really sounds as if he`s enjoying being involved in the making of the food as well as the eating.:j
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
I made these butternut squash muffins a while back & they were delicious & very easy to make. You just chuck everything into a food processor! (& I used the leftover squash for soup).
Just use ordinary frosting though if you ice them, as the one Jamie makes is too runny for lunch boxes. I made them as both large & normal sized muffins & both were lovely & moist so don't really need icing.
The blog it's on might be of interest to you as well - it's called "My husband hates veggies".
(PS You can get English measurements for Jamie's recipe on the Channel 4 site).0 -
On the longer term I find that my kids are more likely to try a veg that they have grown and picked - i'm mad about gardening anyway so I've always got something on the go but even if you're not a gardener it easy to grow something like peas which are amazing popped straight from the pod into the wee mouth!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0

Loved the jelly with fruit in idea - a really weird version of this which children sometimes love is orange jelly with grated carrot in it.
Also when I was in primary school my mum used to make yoghurt jelly...dissolve 1 pint's worth of jelly in 1/4 pint boiling water, allow to cool then combine with about 1/2 pint of fruit yoghurt. Add chopped fruit before pouring into moulds, then chill. Ace for school as it was much less likely to spill or leak, and got me eating fruit and fruit yoghurt as a sort of novelty!0
