barclaycard debt collectors hounding - help!

"Credit Soloutions" are dealing with my barclaycard debt, and they called me today saying if i don't pay 75 today doorstep collectors will be coming round.

this is the only major debt i need to sort as my OH has been really good and worked our finances out week by week til the start of January, getting everything paid except this one.

i don't have it and i offered to pay 75 in july and 75 in august then pay the remaining 500 in september.

she said she could not accept this as i had made no payment this month. I have no money to give them

I DON'T WANT DOORSTEP COLLECTORS COMING ROUND! what can i do?

First - deep breath - lots of them.

The doorstep collector is only a threat - we have all had bucketfuls of those on the board - and RARELY are they followed through.

So what if they do? You dont answer the door. They cannot force their way in (unless you have let them in previously) and with no answer they will go away - but they probably wont turn up as this costs them money.

Put the offer to them in writing. Tell them when the first payment will be and ask them to confirm this is acceptable. Make sure you send the first payment. Is there any chance you could send them a goodwill geasture - £1 or £5 with the offer letter?

The lady on the phone is only trying to put you off. Its her job to get as much money as possible out of you, as fast as possible.

    Hi sassi,

I deal with credit solutions for my barclaycard debt too. Don't worry about the doorstep collectors, they were sending me letters threatening that for a year before I even started opening them! (I was doing a great ostrich impression). Try calling them back, explain that you are intending to pay next month you just have no way to right now. Keep on at them, ask to speak to a manager, everything. I've not heard a peep from them since getting my payment plan sorted with them 2 years ago. I usually phone them to make payment, but they sent me a payment book thing to use at the post office.

Oh, and with amounts - I owed them almost £3k two years ago and they accepted £10 per month for that. They never asked for an increase, I did it myself when I could, and they send me a letter every few months with a 50% final settlement offer

Hope this has eased your mind a little, just keep trying and they will hopefully see sense. PM me if you have any questions :)

just to clarify about debt collectors....they have ABSOLUTELY no power to enter your home under any circumstances whatsoever.
    they are NOT bailiffs.
if you did let them in they still have absolutely NO power to remove anything.
its very unlikely that anyone will come as it obviously costs them money to send someone round for absolutely nothing.
personally i wont recommend paying at the doorstep but if you do make sure you get a clear receipt.

make them an offer you can afford and stick to it...what can they realistically do ? just dont let them bully you

I've repeated this a few times here - and these boards are where I heard it from!

The worst they can do to you is ask you to pay.

Now, its how they ask thats the killer!

Thank you all - you have made me feel so much better.:heartsmil

Think i'm just going to offer them 10 per month until i can afford more.

i'll write to them and send £10 with it as my 1st payment.

I am so determined to clear my debts. This is the only one who i am having problems with. they will not accept my offers.

My original offer of £40 per month was declined, and i don't think i really expected them to agree to £10 but as my circumstances have taken a turn for the worse they'll just have to wait for any more than that.

Anyone know where i can find a magical money tree??! bet we'd all like one of those?!

Thank you all again. I love this site. you are so kind to me...and to everyone else. its like having a big helpful family!

    well done
£10 is better than nothing and if it is all you can afford there is little they can do....just do it.
they dont have to agree to it as long as you can only afford that.
