Advice on porting mortgage - does it require credit checks?

We have a portable mortgage with A&L. If we port our mortgage to a more expenseive house but don't want to borrow any extra, will this usually require credit checks etc?
I ask because I have two late payments on my credit report and one arrangement to pay (which is seriously incorrect and i'm fighting at the moment). These are within the last year so I fear we would get turned down for borrowing extra money for a house. Luckily we have a decent deposit so if we choose a cheaper house we could afford to not borrow any extra. Not ideal for us but an option if we are unlikely to get approved. This would mean just porting our existing mortgage but would this also be subject to a credit check? Or just a valuation of the new house? Our LTV would be 65%-75% on the new house.
For info, our salaries are 54k combined and we have a 25% deposit. However we also have a personal loan and credit card (always paid on time) so we may pay this off but would then only have a 15-20% deposit.
My score is good and my husbands is excellent but we still have these marks on the report.
Can anyone offer advice on the portable mortgage? Or likelyhood of borrowing extra money with marks on credit report? The mortgage calculator says it will lend us more than we need but its the credit report check that I am worried about.
Thanks. Sorry for waffling on!

Just phone the lender and ask the question generically, no need to disclose who you are..0

It will be treated as a new app. you'll only know by applying if they will accept.0
