Where can we marry?

We have decided we want to get married in April 2011, so now need to start planning venue etc. I would like to get married in West Sussex, but we live in Surrey. It will be a civil ceremony (more than likely Registry Office) as I've been married before, but can we get married wherever we like or do we have to stay in our own area? We have parents in East and West Sussex (but 20 miles from where we want to get married), so was thinking somewhere between us and where our friends/family live would be good. Is it possible to do this?

You can get married whereever you want but you'll have to go to your local registrar to get a marriage license which you'll then need to give to the registrars in sussex. I'm getting married at Arundel Town Hall, which is a pretty venue for civil ceremonies. I believe there's a registry office in Horsham which might also be a good area for some nice photos!0

Thanks. I went to a wedding at Arundel Town Hall, and I agree it is lovely. The decking area from the top floor is gorgeous in nice weather. I did look at that for ours, but it is pretty expensive for exclusive use, and justifiably so imo. I was looking at Crawley, but will have a look at Horsham too. thanks x0 -

I viewed this a few weeks ago, as they had a wedding fair. It is stunning! One of my twitter 'friends' is having their wedding there and I must admit to being just a little jealous. Its too far for me but its got the most amazing atmostphere. Its quite small though? How many are you thinking of?:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -

That does look lovely, but I think it will be out of our price range. I can only see prices for Jan/feb 2010 and it is £2k to hire it on a Friday plus you have to have their 3 course sit down menu. I can't see that coming in at any less than £5k and we don't want to spend that much on the wedding
I'm leaning towards Horsham Reg Office for a small wedding as it holds 40, then moving somewhere else for a bigger party. I have no idea on the numbers yet, but probably 120-150 in the evening. If we get married in a smaller venue, we can get away with properly feeding the 40 guest, then the rest will have buffet food
I did look at Sandown Park Racecourse too as it's nice there, but too expensive lol!0 -
Yes it is a bit expensive but I know that deals can be done as twitter 'friend' defo didn't pay that sort of price

The Priory in Haywards Heath is a stunning building, got slatted on Gordon Ramseys 'rescue' programme, but that was a few years ago and much improved now!:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
If you look on the west sussex county council website (www westsussex gov uk) they have a list of all the venues that you can hold a civil ceremony with links to the sites as well as the registry offices. There is also a ceremonies brochure in pdf (it is 2009 as the 2010 isn't up yet but is still of use)0
