i think they will be introduced next year ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0

probally, then will be ready for the heated arguemtn with my neighbour as only 2 in his house and 7 in ours and charge will be the same.
And thats been the way of it in England forever
Me and hubby in a one bedroom apartment paying the same as Mrs Jones down the road with four kids, washing machine on 4 times a day , baths for all the kids, two cars to wash, dishwasher, garden with kiddies paddling pools in the summer - and lets not think about how many loo flushes seeing as they are home all day
However water rates go on the rateable value of your property. If you think your water rates are running too high then get a meter and start restricting what you use - you wont ever brush your teeth with a running tap again thats for sure
(Have to add, I dont agree with the way water rates are worked out but honestly - pay as you use can be twice as expensive )0 -

I would have no problem having a meter but when they first talked about water rates here a few years ago I think they said only newbuilds and pensioners could get meters.TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0 -

Anyone can have a meter - you pay though
Eventually all newbuilds will have meters as matter of course - some water authorities ( or perhaps its Local Councils) already have gone that route, Pensioners in older properties get them free. In England at one time ( not sure if its still the case) you could have one installed free of charge but if you then found your bills to be too high and wanted it taken out - you paid.
Why is you you object so strongly about perhaps paying the same as your neighbour? If that is the case then you are obviously paying the same in rates0 -
I always said I wanted a water meter, but they refuse to fit them unless you where a pension. This is not new builds by the way. Much fairer system if you have to pay.
I think all NIHE homes should be fitted with one.0 -
I think they should have brought in the charges last year.... Funny how the amount the Executive are having to cough up to cover the dealyed water charges is not far of the amount they are having to cut from depatmental budgets like health, schools, etc..etc... so essentially we are paying for water by ways of cuts in our other services
Bring in the charging and give people meters who want them...0 -

I agree. Leaving aside the argument of whether charges are fair or not as we always paid towards them in rates - that battle has been lost forever; there is something inherently unfair in deferring charges for everyone, regardless of ability to pay. It smacks to me of the same self-serving greed that allowed a cap on rates for all property over a certain level while refusing to give a single householder discount except for a few pensioners.
In this instance it is not just the ordinary middle income family that will be subsidising the wealthy but the sick as well. It makes the prospect of a local income tax rather than rates along the lines often mooted by the Lib Dems seem quite attractive.0
