Does anyone think the described offence required police (or any other) action?

Smells like a third party is involved here. The Romanian couple "showed a tenancy agreement but could not provide a contact number for the landlord or say when they had moved in", possible that some crook has took their money, broken into the unoccupied house, and herded them in?

Yes, it would help if we were in possession of all the facts before we go wading in.

Sounds like that to me too.

Happened to friends of ours about 4 years ago.

She bought a 1 bed conversion flat in 1987 (and massively overpaid at the time), lived in it for many years. Married, moved out and rented it out. It had neg equity for nearly a decade due to problems with the conversion, a carp mortage and so on.
Eventually, it had recouped enough HPI to be worth flogging.

They live on other side of London and left it in hands of EA. Tenants had left, they chucked even more £££ at it and got it sorted to sell.

He decided to check on it one evening and put key in door and there was a large family living in it. Full of all their furniture. They had only just moved in and had (apparently) paid 6 months rent upfront as they were new to the UK.

To cut a very long story short, he got in touch with social services who sorted out emergency accomodation for the family and arranged storage for their furniture. They left after 3 days of being discovered with no threats or nasty stuff.

Turned out the key had been copied at the EA's and someone had set up the fraud.

I'm ashamed to say Rother District Council is my Local Council ........What amazes me is that Bexhill has over 50% of the councillors so its alomst impossible for other towns like Battle and all the surrounding villages to get anything.

Vast sums of money are spent giving grants to the De La Warre pavillion for "Arty" sh1te that no one wants or understands.
They are now gonna spend a million or so doing up Bexhill seafront...

Fortnightly rubbish collections and all recycling must be neatly put into seperate recycling boxes (God help you if you get it wrong and put a cat5 plastic bottle in the box) only to see them all emptied into the same compartment on the dustcart and then thrown in landfill.........Beggers belief

Democracy is a dirty word in these parts......
