Can I grind up porridge oats for oatmeal?

Hi, I need some oatmeal for a recipe, but can't seem to find it in the shops at the mo. Does anyone know if I could just whizz some porridge oats in the food processor and use it instead? (It's to add to the flour in a bread roll recipe)

Many thanks!

Not a complete answer, but I just add porridge oats direct from packet [Asda Smartprice], seems to work so far

I've done this - the porridge oats I had in the house were the really big ones so I ground them down a bit - worked fine.

Thanks, you learn something new every day! It's a British recipe though.

I've always just ground up oats into oatmeal and it works fine - and is cheaper than buying oatmeal!

The OH puts her porridge oats through a blender when she buys some.

It only takes a few Min's to cook then in a microwave
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

That's what I needed to know - thanks! Oats are a lot cheaper :T
  • ariba10 it only takes a few minutes to cook porridge oats in the micro-wave anyway. We use jumbo oats and it takes about 5 minutes for a double portion!
