Woody all I can say is read the very first post at the top of the board and then don't let the door slap you on the way out. Thgis board is not for judgmental people to comment on, 99.99% of the internet can be your school yard leave us nice kids to play politely.
OP as far as I know wages over payments are not enforceable. Yes an employer can take deductions from your pay whilst still working there but after wards it becomes a very voluntary grey area.
As far as interest goes I would say they can whistle too. Which country are you in btw as legally it may make a difference?

On the statute barred thing, yes this 'debt' would be subject to the Limitation Act. But it's six years (in England) so still some way to go from what you say.

It is potentially enforceable but there are defences.

If it went to his old address, his parents could just sent it back as "not known at this address" and let them search on. Don't acknowledge it.
