The Professional and Career Development Loan is your best bet, but it is a loan (interest doesn't accrue while you're doing your course).
Otherwise you could try the Eductational Grants Advisory Service who hold details of - amongst other kinds of funding - charitable funding.
Maybe someone else knows better than me but I don't think the Job Centre will pay for it.0 -
i used a company called "next step" who managed to get funding for it0

Speak to your local jobcentre. The jobcentre have provisions in place for HGV courses - which would mean not only would they fund it but they would actually pay you a 'training premium' while your studying it - 15 pound a week as far as I know. You would need to be on benefits though to qualify - and need to speak to your jobcentre to ensure you are eligible. Just a question, have you researched about available jobs? And i don't mean me miriad of agency advertised jobs.
At present there are alot of experienced drivers out there who are looking for work, along with the requirement of 2 yrs experience and 25yrs old thing that alot of employers insist on.
The agencies advertise alot of the time, but remember that for every client slot they have they need at least 5 drivers, only 1 will do the booking, but they need 5 on their books to make sure they can cover their slot.
I'm not trying to put you off, but alot of training firm say there is a driver shortage, that ended 3 yrs ago, and I know of several 10yrs+ exp drivers of all types of truck and load that can't find any work at the moment. Also know of alot more newly qualified drivers who can't find work even driving a van, never mind and artic.0 -
I realise there's not a great deal of work out there at the moment but in the North East there are several jobs advertised in the teesport area. I have a few friends that are working driving HGVs and are pretty confident they could get me work. Hopefully the economy will recover and job prospects will improve. I'm in a dead end job at the moment and reckon that the longer I have my license the better chance I have of finding work. Thanks0
