Bagged or Bagless?

Options
Just about to buy a new hoover and I am going to buy a nice bagged one. I am doing this because I believe that the bagless ones are false economy and despite the adverts the do loose suction much worse than the bagged ones:rolleyes: .

With the bagless cleaners I have to empty them in the bin (dust goes everywhere), clean and change the filters (using hot water and a bit of washing liquid). With a bagged cleaner, quick and simple straight in the bin and because the bags are papery I am sure the degrade fairly quickly.

So there you have it. I tried to like my bagless hoover I really did but it was a good make and quite frankly, it was crap. I had to empty it at least once a week or it would just not suck. Most of my friends agree too. I now have a nice Henry hoover on order which I await with baited breath.:T

I'm into bagless. I love my Dyson. Ok the filters are a pest, but nothings perfect, and at the time I bought it they were better on dust then normal vacuums. I do like being able to see easily when it needs emptying too.

The ones with paper have problems too, especially if you/someone forgets to change it then the filter can get clogged etc.. If the paper bag gets damaged or is faulty then you get a real mess everywhere including inside the machine. If someone presses the sides of the bag when you empty it the dust flies out. Then there's the classic of a special trip out to buy the bags when you forget to get them in. In one place where we lived they were an horrific price from the shops, so the only day you could get them at realistic prices was the Saturday market, where a stall sold them cheaply.

I've had years of the old bag machines, I'm in the no bag camp, a definite convert.

    Hope your Henry works well.

You can put in vaccum contents (including hair) into your compost bin, if you have one, and this is of the "brown" type. I always struggle to find "brown" but "green" are much easier (grass cuttings and veg offcuts).

Slight sidestep I know, I consider my wrist slapped :D .

I have a James, the yellow cousin of Henry.

He's very good and I wouldn't part with him :D

What is the difference between Henry and James? Ha ha, my BF will probably think he has a love rival.

James is yellow and has a storage space round his lid for your duster etc, but I use it to coil the wire round as James doesn't have the wind up bit like Henry.

    HTH!!

Bagless definately, i empty mine before it even gets half full and do it outside so any dust wont go back on my new floor!
Also you can see right in, i hoovered up a gold charm the other day, switched the machine off straight away, lifted the lid up and found it. no hassle.

Definitely bagless for me, easy to see when it needs emptying (I empty mine straight into the wheelie bin) and clear the filter each time I empty by brushing it with a hand held brush - works really well, my carpets are really clean compared to my last vacum.:j

i used to have a henry, but he was very old, and had seen better days after 8 years of living with a long haired border collie, and a life in a cleaning company before that- poor henry :( lol

i now have an upright bagless vacuum, which i find tons easier, i also empty it straight into the wheelie bin, which is quick and easy.

Tho, as others have said, the filter is a pain!! I think i may try your tip GARDEN MILLIE, and try using a brush on it - cheers :) :T
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
