Slight digression, but my husband makes me cut the stump out of cauliflowers & save it for him, he loves it. Even worse if my Uncle Mike comes for dinner, they fight over it cos he likes it too!0 -

Do you mean raw? My Dad used to love eating raw cauliflower , especially the stalk and raw sprouts , yet he didn't like any cooked veg . He'd only eat tinned peas , broad and butter beans ::)Same old same old since 20080 -
Do you mean raw?
Yup. He loves raw cauliflower, but his favourite is raw swede! Strange man.
He's not over keen on cooked veg either, but he is getting better0 -
Raw cauli is lovely, I often make a salad with it, mixed with apple and mayonnaise, and I think the thick stalk tastes like radishes....I use that too but I peel it and slice it thinly. I often use the 'trunk' of the broccoli peeled and sliced in a stirfry.0

Thanks for all the replies, used them as a base idea. Chopped the broccoli and onion, cooked in the pot with a little butter, then added 600ml stock and 300ml milk, simmered till soft then blended, also put a little mild cheddar in and it was lovely! Definately going to be regular from now on.

I got inspired by your thread and am going to make this tomorrow so thank you ;D
I LOVE the stalk too. I cook it all and everyone else has the florets and I have the stalks - my kids think i'm nuts ;D ;DSometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
I always use the stalks too. I make a soup like Lucie and savingsnewbie but I add a clove of garlic at the frying stage, the rest is mostly the same, or I may add a bit of whatever Ifancy whiz in blender return to pan and add loads of stilton and black pepper mmmmmmm, much better than shop bought.Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)
