Wedding cars

I went to a wedding fayre on Sunday and there were a few stalls there that did wedding cars so I got a few prices.
On the wedding day I will have stayed at a local hotel about 15 minutes from the church, OH will be in at ours which is about 15 steps from the church. One company have said that I can just book the one car as they can pick up the bridesmaids and my mum then come back for me and my dad, roughly about an hour, max.
The cost?
£350!
the way she was talking to me I thought it was going to be a right bargain.
It's cheaper to hire a car for the day, about £200 cheaper. Has anyone else thought of doing this?
The taxi companies around here are alright but not quite what I want

I was shocked at the prices when my fiance asked about cars.
I confess that I'm not doing the whole wedding car thing - I see no point for us to waste £300+ so that I can have pictures of me sitting in a car I don't own in a crushed dress...lol

I only need one car, to take me & BM from my home to the Town Hall as we are planning separate transport for the journey from there to the reception ....usually costs £6.40 in a taxi for the trip... am not really looking forward to asking the question, but bet it would be more than the amount I've budgeted!!0

do you have a friend with a nice car ? see if they would be willing to help out
thats what im doing lol
we wanted classic vw's for the wedding, and as thats what most of our friends drive I just asked them if they would mind helping lol
plus between them all we should get some fab photosMarried on 5th March 2010still lurking on the wedding board tho :rotfl:0 -

Often private hire companies who do 'taxi's' have a couple of 'nice' cars that they use for airport runs etc. 'Phone them up (without using the W word
) and ask for prices. :rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
We got quotes for cars of around the same price for a standard plain car (silver merc) - nothing special.
But it has always been my dream to have a horse and carriage.
So i started to do a bit of research - knowing that they are ridiculously expensive.
I found 1 place near us who have 2 white horses and a stunning carriage, so bit the bullet and rung them explaing that - we are having a civil ceremony in the same place that we are having the reception so would really like them to turn up just as we have got married so we can ''run off'' for 15 minutes, before we have to spent the rest of the day seperated and entertaining our guests. Then arrive back in style and have photos taken. I was expecting her to come back to me with a price of about £700+, as they live a fair distance away.
£300 - i was gobsmacked. The woman explained that as we are getting married on a thursday which isnt a busy time and as we dont want a full package just an hour, that she would do it for this price.
We can go and visit her and her horses anytime we like. The pure white spanish horses were exactly what i was looking for as our theme is white and fushia pink. A brown horse just wouldnt have fit in.
Im well happy. And gonna feel like a true princess.
Never thought Id be able to afford it.
We have also looked into taxi firms for wedding cars and they can provide nice cras for the day, event for a set reasonable fee. R=They take all logo's advertising off, so no one would no, but they legally have to leave the taxi ID plate on.
You must also remeber that wedding car hire isnt just for the car - theres a driver, car insurance, upkeep of the car usually more expensive than a normal car if your looking at rolls royce for example), paperwork, petrol, public liability insurance etc etc. As with anything uniwue you will pay a premium for it. most of the time.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!:T0 -
I did, I stayed at the hotel we got married in overnight, so I didn't need transport, but Clive was coming from our house, and I looked into hiring a really sporty car for him to drive himself and his family. Didn't do it in the end, but if we had paid for some kind of transportation, I think this is a more fun way of doing it...It's cheaper to hire a car for the day, about £200 cheaper. Has anyone else thought of doing this?0 -
Cars are very expensive. At my brother's wedding in the summer they used my car as the wedding car - its not vintage but is new - and my fiance drove for them. There's no harm in asking a friend who has a decent car if they wouldn't mind driving.
One other thing to consider that I've found when looking at classic cars is how small the backseat is. When you've got your dress on (depending on style) you might find its a tight squeese or difficult to get in and out!0 -
you'd think owning a bug would give you loads of friends with nice ones nope! everyone we know is rat look and i'm not doing that
i think i got a good deal though
we are having a white soft top beetle for the drive from my mums to the church 30 minutes - then he waits around for the church to finish which is a hour and a half and the from the church to the venue which he is going to go the scenic route which will take 40 minute for £250
not bad i think although i will be bloody cold in it lol0 -

oh who did you go with in the end?
luckily most of my friends havnet gone for the rat look lol
my one friend has a choice of vw's to use, so we have picked the splitty as there is plenty of room in the back for me and my dress
then got another friend in her white new beetle cab to take a couple of bridesmaids, another friend with a just restored old bug (same as my old bug cept mines still waiting to be restored lol) to take a couple more etc etc
i have told all guests that own vw's to come in them lol
and i imagine my other half will come in the best mans car, which is a gold mk1 scirocco which is awesome
i think im nearly as excited about all the cars as i am everything else lolMarried on 5th March 2010still lurking on the wedding board tho :rotfl:0
