removing doggy smells from rug???

I've got some people coming to stay tomorrow and I need to get the doggy smell out of the rug. It's virtually new (about 3 months old) but if I don't use Neutradol Carpet Deodorizer on it at least every couple of weeks - it stinks. I don't really want to use that this time because it smells for a couple of days afterwards quite strongly (maybe I just sprinkle too much on??)
Any other tips that I can do tonight? I have bicarb but I don't know whether I need to mix it with something or use it on its own.
Thanks,
Mel

You could try using Star Drops mixed with water. If you've got time for it to dry.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I haven't got any stardrops and our local supermarkets don't sell it! Plus there won't be enough time for it to dry I don't think.
Thanks anyway.
I thought I saw a similar problem to this the other day but couldn't find it in the search menu - I thought it gave a Kim and Aggie option of bicarb and something else? or am I going mad? We’ve had to remove your signature. We have a dog and every couple of weeks or so, I sprinkle bicarb on our carpets before vacumming. I use about 2 good handfuls per room, leave for 10 mins and then vacuum.I have the mind of a criminal genius. I keep it in the freezer next to Mother....0

Moral of the story is use Neutradol Carpet Deodorizer more often or get rid of the dog.I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.0

I add a few drops of essential oil to some bicarb, sprinkle it all over the carpet, do the rest of the housework so it gets chance to 'work', then i come back and vaccuum it up
I also make my own 'fabric freshener' to spray on the suite, and stair carpets...its just water in a spray bottle with a few drops of an essential oil. HTH0 -
if the smell isn't too bad hanging it outside for the day should freshen it up0
