child support aged 19

The other day there was the sad news that a soldier age 19 was killed fighting in Afghanistan, a rifleman with 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regimen.
The government willingly sends 19 year olds to war, 19 years olds by there own laws are still subject to child protection, how sick can this government get.

You are not a child at 19, you are a young adult able to marry, drive, gamble, smoke, drink and basically do what the hell you want.
The armed forces will only send those aged 18 and over on duty in warzones and If they are able to do all the above, then they are more than capable of standing on the front line with all the other soldiers. I see nothing wrong with 18/19 yr olds fighting in the armed forces, it's what they signed up to do.
The comparison to child support maintenance is neither here nor there as we all know they are not children, they just receive ''child related benefits'' whilst in further education.0 -
Mitca....tut tut tut
you know our jacqueline/Jacklink likes a good troll;)
And, as per, she's wrong anyway...child protection stops at 18 for a young adult in England and Wales;)0 -
LG when you say child protection can I ask did you mean child maintenance and if thats what you meant, I thougt CM stopped at 19 years old?
i'm totally confused by it for me CM stops somewhere between 16 to 19 where is anyones guess:D the csa toss a coin on it.
Never mind tolling or what not.
they do need to get themselves straightened out. If you are eligible for CM at 19 then for me 19 year olds should not be allowed into the armed forces as by law they are children, otherwise they are saying they collect maintenance for adults. I wish they would draw a real line, I dont care where anywhere will do just draw it. at the moment its 16 18 19 and theres a rumoured 20
. you shouldnt be able to vote at 19 then either if they want to be able to collect CM on a 19 year old, if they do up it to 20 will the voting age go up to, or are we letting children vote now:mad:. the government just suiting themselves as usual.
years ago it used to be bloody simple, you finished school at 16 you were an adult at 18 end of:mad::mad:. (double mad I am now:p I hate grey area prefer an absolute its all ifs ifs ifs)0 -

No I did mean child protection. The laws as set out by the Government (which is what Jack is twittling on about) mean a child is legally an adult at 18 in England and Wales (hence why parents/guardians have to give permission if they are under 18 to join up but as mitchaa says, under 18's are not sent to the front line) and 16 in Scotland (no permission needed but still not sent to front line).
So a 19 year old in the Army can be sent to the front line and very very sadly indeed, these men run the risk of losing their life.
But as soon as a child person signs up and joins, no CB benefit would be paid...neatly bringing it back to what the forum is for;)0 -

CS is only paid to a young person of 19 if they are still at college/school. The Armed Forces are a job/career so CB could not be claimed for a person in them;)0 -
