I am planning to betch cook some chilli have all I need except kidney beans. Don't really want to wander up to tescos as I will spend too much money. being snowed in means I am using up what I have in the freezer etc. I have red lentil and baked beans if that is any help.

Why not take enough for two tins from tesco? And no other cards or money?
Or yes, use the beans and lentils to bulk it outA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Baked beans are fine but remember you'll get extra tomato sauce from these so allow for that with your sauce! My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

I think if I was going to use baked beans I'd rinse the orange gloop off them.
Alternatively, since you are batch cooking, presumably to freeze, why not simply wait until you can get out and buy some kidney beans.
Or make something else ?Gus.0 -

I get rid of the baked bean sauce as well, as it mucks up my chilli. Try sticking a can of cheap sweetcorn in there are well, really nice and makes up for the beans a bit.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

My DS never used to eat Chilli because he didn't like the kidney beans. Now I half them (bit of a faff) and he eats and enjoys it, and I much prefer them halved as well! However, if I run out of kidney beans then I use any other pulse which I have in the stockcupboard.0
