how much can a pensioner get from social security

dad (was in his 80's)died recently, and as my sister is going though his papers it looks like hes been getting £100 a week from social security, does that sound right?
i don't know how he could get anything from the social sercurity as he has a round £40,000 in bank, so i think they will be looking to claim it back

That £100 per week is most likely his state pension, it isn't means tested, he'd have too much in savings to get pension credit.

You need to contact your local pension cente and inform them of teh death ASAp. otehrwise any payments made after death will be reclaimed.

Theres not much the £100 per week could be other than a disability benefit such as Attendance Allowance (higher arte is £80+ p/w), its unlikely to be pension credit as he had too much in savings .

Is there a reference number or something on his bank statement ?, if not the banks may be able to tell you who was making the payment.
