Hi after being homeless for 5 years i am finally rebuilding my life after being housed in social housing. My problems are i have many debts from before i was homeless which i have no paperwork for so i cant remember who i owe and how much. I am not in a financial position to pay these off as i am unemployed. How can i find out who i owe and how much, i know halifax barclaycard and hsbc are creditors but have no account numbers etc. If i went bankrupt how can i find out the ammounts without giving them my new address as i really dont want debt collectors at my door.
I am writing this on a friends computer as i dont have access to the internet any other way so he will relay any help advice you might be able to give. I looked at the credit report sites but they want you to sign up and as i do not have a ny debit or credit facillities this is not possible.
thanks

i believe after 6 years since you last paid or had any correspondence with the companies all debts are statue bared and they can not demand the money, well they can demand it but you do not have to pay so i would personally not worry about the debts and just carry on trying to get your life back on track as they only have roughly 1 year left to 'find' you and by the time they have found you wirtten to you, got a prove it letter back and all the wonderful 'time' wasteing things that can be done you will find most will end up being bared and will then not appear on yoru credit file (as any defaults only last 6 years)Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
My dad got about 100k debt on spread betting /options in Germany in the 90s, although the banks have stopped chasing these few years, probably the debt got written off (parents no longer live there anyway).0

unfortunately my last correspondance with the halifax was in 2007 when they traced me through my sister, but i did not acknowledge the letters they sent to her, does this still count towards the 6 years, i took out a personal loan from them in early 2006 before my life fell apart. My sister recieved debt collector letters at her address from this debt and others. She tells them i dont live there but they do not believe her and she dont need the hassle. I just need to start afresh and i cant do this with the stress of them hassling me for money i foolishly borrowed and now cannot pay back0

The statute of limitations applies to 6 years since the last payment or WRITTEN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT by you of the debt. You can however right to the companies concerned and add "I do not acknowledge any debt to your company" and that covers the situation.
However it would not cover a debt taken out in 2006, as plainly that was 3/4 years old.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
