Don't risk it - you may ruin your breadmaker and cause a fire."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0

It will be O.K. as it's only a small proportion of the recipe, although you will probably have a loaf with a more closed texture and it may be slightly smaller.0

It's not going to overflow.
Self-Raising flour doesn't have the gluten strength of plain flour - so your bread won't rise as much.
Self-Raising flour is intended for cake making (though why would you make wholemeal cakes ?)
Having said that - I've made the same error myself (although not in a bread maker) and at a ratio of 3-1 the bread wasn't a bad texture at all - not as 'heavy' as with plain wholewheat flour.Gus.0 -

Absolutely.
I agree 100% with Horsechestnut - that's the result I got.Gus.0 -
I've done this before when making pizza dough and TBH I was surprised it hadn't risen as much as I expected it to. No real difference from normal. You have only used a quarter of the flour volume with SR flour so I'd not worry too much, leave it to go.
If you are a bit concerned though, have a watch after about 1.5 hours (depending on your cycle, mine has finished rising by then). If it has risen scarily, remove from machine and shape into rolls or loaves and cook in the oven, all you have to do is then clean out the machine, not too bad.
It's only a game

Glad to hear it turned out okay in the end. When I once used SR flour for Yorkshires the reaction was a little more lively, shall we say..."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey.
