asking for reduced interest rates?

Is it possible to get interest rates on credit cards lowered just by asking? Or would the cc companies not consider this?
We are not in trouble with paying minimum payments or anything like that so I don't want to alarm the cc companies by telling them that we can't manage with the current rates of interest. But obviously want the rates to be lowered so that we can get them paid off quicker.
We have come to the end of 0% deals and cannot apply for more as we don't live in the UK anymore and all say that you have to be UK resident.
If this is something the cc companies would consider what would be the best way to ask for it without them thinking we are having problem?

When we have tried it they have not been willing to do anything, in fact one of them told us they were going to be increasing it again!
The best thing I have found is paying off one card and then waiting, they usually then write offering a deal.
no harm in trying though!Aug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00
