removals..heeeelp!

a friend is going to move house next month and a removal van is too expensive so its either going to be a man and van or friends of friends kind of thing. thing is they havent a clue about how much it would cost to get a man and van for the day, not even a ball park figure..also if it ends up being friends who do it how much should they be offered??!!

Prices vary hugely around the country, so the easiest thing is to ring around a few companies to get an idea in your area. Your friend may even find it's cheaper to get a man + van just for a few hours than paying friends + food + a few beers.

pumpa where abouts are you? We moved house 18months ago and paid a man plus one and big van a it cost us about 70quid and was well worth every penny they turned up a lunch time loaded everything up, took it to new house and unloaded it in to correct rooms in one journey, we filled an estate and a saloon car up with smaller stuff. The main problem we had was that even though we had the use of a van, we moved on a Friday like most people seem to and anyone who could of helped us to move was at work. If you live anywhere near me and will pm you the guys number.

You can hire a Luton van with a taillift(Very handy) for around fifty quid for the day but if you are prepared to look there are cheaper ways.
Many charity shops offer a collection service for furniture donations and that means they have big voluenteers and a removal van. If you offer them the furniture you are leaving behind or throwing out and add a small donation they might be prepared to help.

    Hi,
I'm moving too. Last week I had a look in the local paper (we're east mids - sorry) and there were 3 there.
1 was £10 an hour and one was a straight £120 (which i thought was a lot) So we're are going with the 1st one and using our cars. have 1 friend /maybe 2 to help but we'll see on the day.
I'm sure it'll be fine if your friend hires a man + van - they could ask him if they have a friend they use. I bet he has someone he knows who likes a bit of cough cough cash!
