Hi,
My girlfriend and I applied for a mortgage on Monday evening via a mortgage broker. He entered all of our details into the online A&L app, and we received an offer in principle. We've now sent copies of payslips etc and A&L going to carry out the valuation on the house.
Our solicitor is keen to get things moving, and needs us to send a cheque so they can start the searches.
Should we wait until we receive the full mortgage offer from A&L before the solicitors start doing their work? How long do A&L normally take before an offer? I was wondering what could still go wrong at this stage (i'm a bit of a pessimist)
Thanks
p.s. sorry, this is prob one of the usual FTB questions!

Yes wait untill the lender has had the valuation done & sent you confirmation just to be on the safe side.
The lender should contact you within a few days of the surveyor doing the valuation.
It's a stressful time, buying a property & I never relax till the actual day of completion! Be prepared for a few sleepless nights & hopefully you'll be able to rest easy in around 12-14 weeks in your new home!
Good luck. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I don't think you can wait so long before doing searches. ideally you want the searches back the same time as your mortgage offer comes in. By which time your solicitor should have the paperwork and raised any queries.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Hi,
Thanks for the quick replies. Interesting opinions. Does anyone else have any advice please?
Thanks0 -
I'm with Silvercar on this.
Waiting for the offer is too late.
SSI am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far! :mad:0 -
ok, thanks - we'll get the cheque and paperwork off tomorrow.
We're first time buyers, so we're still getting used to how it all works; i guess one of the things is that we have to accept if it all goes pear shaped we could potentially lose money we spent on searches etc.
Thanks,
