Pocket Sprung and memory foam on each side for less the 350£ help!!

Hi everyone

I didn't know anything about mattresses, and having spent the whole week searching for a mattress I realise now how complicated and vast this business is... I will be moving in a new place next week, and there's no bed nor mattress... I finally found a bed I like which is slated. I don't know how many slats though.
I tried a few beds in some retailers and from what I gathered from the sales men and also here on the forum (I already spent some time reading a few threads on the subject), it seems to me that the best is to have a mattress with pocket springs (1000 to 1800) with a layer of memory foam on each side (2 to 2,5 inches). Therefore I'll try to add more slats to the beds as I understand slated base is not good for pocket spring mattresses.
I read good things about Kozeesleep Max Pocket and la Romantica Madrid.
unfortunately, 440£ each + delivery is a bit over my budget limit... It seems impossible to find a mattress having all of these specifications for less than 350£
Could anyone please help me?? I'm getting mad!

I've also seen La Romantica All seasons 1000 but it is still a bit too expensive for me...

I read somewhere on the forum some good things about Eros and Calypso mattresses. I made a research on google and that's what I found:

1) Apollo Calypso memory foam 1000 sprung

2) Eros memory pocket 1000

I am not sure these are the models that were talked about on the forum

Also I found these ones:

3) Rest Assured Magnolia 1000

4) Memory Pocket 1000

I'm not allowed to post links so I hope you can find them. I haven't found all the specs for them, the density in particular. What do you think of these models??

Has anyone a mattress to suggest? or somewhere I could have a look?
I understand I should stay away from big brand names but I just don't know where to look.

Also if I cannot find what I'm looking for is it best to buy a mattress with pocket sprung and memory foam not turnable -how long would that last roughly? - or a pocket sprung only mattress?

Please help!!!

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

For your budget you would either have to buy a non turn pocket sprung/memory foam mattress, or a two sided pocket sprung only mattress. Just make sure that it doesn't contain reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs.
  • Thanks for the reply Tim!

Ok. I'll go for a non turnable pocket spring with memory foam then. I'll try to make sure it's not reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs, although I'm not sure to be able find the info for all of them. What do you think of the models I mentioned above?
I also found the memflex pocket 1200, Relyon Pocket Memory 100, The King Size Posture Form Pocket 1400 from mymemorymattress. Would you advise me one in particular in all of the ones I mentioned?? My problem is that I'll be moving out next thursday so I need a mattress delivered quite quickly, otherwise I'd wait to be delivered in a longer time..

It looks like all three that you mentioned have reflex foam encapsulated pocket spring, with the possible exception of the Relyon. However the relyon doesn't mention the depth or density of the memory foam, and it does say that it contains reflex foam, which is why I suspect that it contains reflex foam encapsulated springs.
  • Hi Tim! Thanks a lot for your help! :)

I made some research and the Relyon, Rembrant though, contains Reflex foam as you said. However the vendor assured me that the Reflex foam was only a layer underneath the memory foam..., so not encapsulated in the springs... But only 30mm foam...so I won't go for this one anyway...
As I said I will be moving out this thursday so I had to go through the next day delivery websites. Thanks to your advices on different threads on the forum, I've selected a few mattresses. I did ask the vendors about Reflex foam encapsulated inside the mattresses and I tried to find out about the density and deepness of the memory foam. These are the ones I selected:

    1) Cashmere 1000 Pocket Memory Foam : 1000 pocket srpung, 60 mm memory foam (60 kg/m3) Non turnable

    2) Apollo Calypso Memory foam 1000 pocket sprung : 60 mm memory foam (60 kg/m3) Turnable

    3) Joseph Imagine 1000 or Eclipse 1000: both with 1000 pocket sprung and 50 mm memory foam (60 kg/m3 apparently) Non turnable

    4) Memory Pocket 1000 (from imattress) : 1000 pocket sprung and 50 mm memory foam (I don't know the density) Non turnable

I suppose that the best is the Calypso as it is turnable. But what do you think?
Has anyone got one of these mattresses or heard good reviews about them??

Thanks for your help!!! or anyone else's !!
  • I forgot to add to my selection the Sleepeezee Divine.. 1000 pocket sprung and a layer of visco elastic foam. I don't know more about it.

I presume you mean the Highgate one?
The density and depth of the memory foam are good. The cashmere is probably just a small amount woven into the fabric, so is just a gimmick.
    2) Apollo Calypso Memory foam 1000 pocket sprung : 60 mm memory foam (60 kg/m3) Turnable

The Calypso isn't what it used to be, and has different specs depending on the retailer. So I wouldn't have any confidence about the quality.
    3) Joseph Imagine 1000 or Eclipse 1000: both with 1000 pocket sprung and 50 mm memory foam (60 kg/m3 apparently) Non turnable

The Imagine does appear to have reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs. I'm not sure about the Eclipse though, it might be worth asking.
    4) Memory Pocket 1000 (from imattress) : 1000 pocket sprung and 50 mm memory foam (I don't know the density) Non turnable

This one looks to contain reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs.

Just remember to check the sellers return policy. Also it is worth checking sellers who don't advertise next day delivery, as some may be doing a delivery run to your area this week.

No, it's a big brand so the quality is probably lower.
  • Hi,

    First Post:

I have come across Apollo Beds whereby they do a "Dual Density 1500 pocket spring" mattress directly from Apollo for £360. Cheapest online is £389. This is a 'turnable' mattress 2" foam on both side. Is this similiar to the La Romantica mattress?

    Here is the spec:

The Dual Memory Foam & 1500 Pocket mattress has is luxury mattress with a 12 inch deep mattress that has a luxury four-way stretch knitted fabric and deep memory foam, this will mould your body to reduce stress. And a 1500 pocket sprung that will give a all round support and the best sleep ever.

    Specification:
    • Luxury four-way stretch knitted fabric
    • 50mm V60 Memory Foam
    • 50mm V55 Memory Foam
    • 1500 Spring Unit
    • Medium - Firm Support
    • Hypo - allergenic
    • Dual sleeping side, Dual Density
    • 12" thickness (300mm) deep mattress
    Rating: Medium/Firm

Any experts reckon the four-way stretch knitted fabric will provide the edge to edge support?
