Advice about a watch repair!

Hi Hope this is the right place for this. Please move if necessary. I bought my son a watch for Christmas from Argos and in May it seemed as if the battery had gone. Took it to have a new one and the guy said there was nothing wrong the batttery. Decided to take it back to Argos as it was still under guarantee. They said their policy was that as it was in guarantee but out of the 16 day return then they would have to send it away. Got a phone call about 4 weeks ago saying they were having trouble getting the part and would I be happy for it to be sent back again(said yes as no use if still not working) Went in today to check on progress and THEY HAVE LOST IT apparently!!! The lady said no stores had it in for a replacement but she could give me a refund. My problem is the watch was originally £50 but I got it for £37.50(special offer from instore leaflet). If I take a refund that means that my son will only get £37.50 to get a new watch when the value of the other was £50. Should I get a watch to its actual value as a replacement or is the £37.50 right. I feel that my son will have to look for a watch at £37.50, or put money to a dearer one when he had a watch worth £50 even though I paid less?

I think all you are entitled to is your money back ie £37.50. Are there no other offers on that you could put this towards?

  • Thanks Middlers, I was wondering if anybody thought I should be offered anything else in view of the fact they have lost the watch. I just think being offering a refund is not very customer friendly as it is their fault.

I would argue the case In for a Bargain. You gave it to them to be fixed not lost. Have you phoned their CS Dept. I've had allsorts of probs with Winsford branch who basically don't give a t**s.
    Give it a go

In for a bargin - ask for a replacement, this is what they usually offer under their terms and conditions:

What if there's a problem with the product?
    Within 30 days
Please return the faulty product(s) with the receipt** and we'll usually offer you a replacement, repair or refund.

After 30 days but within 1 year of purchase
Please return the faulty item(s) with the receipt** and we'll usually be able to repair it for you. If we can't offer a repair, we'll usually give you a replacement. This does not affect your statutory rights.

Check with their customer services if no luck with store - they should offer like for like - that's my experience!

    Good luck
I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!
