new silver chain

I bought my husband a silver chain from a reputable jewellers and after 2 weeks of wearing it it has turned black!

Is this usual?

I know how to clean it using the soda crystals method but before I do should I be concerned that it has tarnished so quickly?

    Has he worn silver before? One of my sisters can't wear it as she always turns it black-

    Any sulphur in your area - or maybe a chemical works - always guaranteed to turn silver black.
