Vegetable soap

I'd like to buy some pure vegetable soap having read that it is the best thing to use for your skin.
Now I thought that this board was probably the best place to go for advice.
I'm not sure of the best one to buy. Holland and barrett have a olive oil bar for 89p, which doesn't sound too bad considering it lasts for ages.
But Tesco have unperfumed veg soap for 40p and aloe vera veg soap for 45p. I think Asda do one of these as well.
Trouble is, I'm no where near either store and I'll have to make a special journey, which I don't mind because I'll fit it round something else, but I want to be sure I'm buying the right thing. I don't know what they have in them because it doesn't say online.
If you use vegetable oil soap, which one do you use please? Or which one do you think is best?

Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

Sorry I first read that as SOUP:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:0 -

And me, sorry Lotus-eater, - thought it was a typo :rotfl:
I can't offer any advice other than maybe try the health & beauty board on here, they may be able to help?
Good luck0 -
Oh that makes 3 of us!! The cold means SOUP is on my mind!
I watched Kirstie Allsop's homemade Xmas (rather wish I hadn't) but she made soap on that - so a search through Channel 4 might be an idea?
Hope that helps0 -
Do you have an independent health shop near you instead? The ingredients tend to be a bit better, some of the supermarkets you have to be careful as they promote 'naturals' ranges but some of them are far from it..
Be interested to hear how you get on though, I tend to use only organic stuff but use liquid soap rather than a bar.0 -
Hi
Another one who read "soup" !! Middle-aged eyesight to blame in my case anyway!!
There was a good post re soap making on the H&B board the other day, the poster seemed well-informed, maybe she could advise further. I'll go and find the link!

Yes Gigervamp makes good soap. Google "handmade soap" and see how many small companies make great stuff. It feels a million times better on your face than the synthetic stuff, I'd never go back to that.0

Without seeing the ingredients list, it's not possible to advise which soap is better. Most veg oil soaps will contain the basic 3 oils; palm or palm kernel, (sodium palmate or sodium palm kernalate) coconut (sodium cocoate) and olive (sodium olivate).
I was just having a look at some commercial vegetable soaps and came across one by Suma which is listed as a "Traditional Handmade Soap" and is nothing of the sort.
IngredientsAqua, vegetable glycerin, sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, propylene glycol, sodium stearate, sucrose, sodium cocoate, sodium xylene sulfonate, stearic acid, fragrance, fd+c red no.33.
It's a syndet (synthetic detergent) bar and the only real soap in it is some coconut. Also, I noted that the ingredient list is wrong as the colours should be listed as a CI number and there are no allergens listed, which there should be.
So, caveat emptor.0 -

And so do you my dear! I was going to click the thanks button, but it's not there for some reason.
Oh, and now it is!0 -
You could try Lush Soaps. Though they would be much more expensive than H&B/ Tesco and Asda. They are not 100% natural but still much better than the ones available in the supermarkets
