Get a copy of your bank statement with the sale on it, (blank out all the rest of the transactions so they can't be nosy) then take it back into the shop, stating that these tops were full price when you bought them on this date and you'd like a refund.

Of course with this you can proove you paid full price, that is unless Asda have no idea when they mark clothes down. Even if they don't, they should/will have a back office system which allows them to search for the transaction by the amount you spent on that date. If in doubt, ask them about it, see if they refuse, and then ring their head office customer services. ;)

Most shops have back office sysems where they have the facility to bring up receipts, but they don't let on.

  • A receipt is not the only thing considered as proof of purchase. If you have a witness with you that is also considered as proof. If they think you are persistent while being polite you might just get a change of attitude. Quality of Asda clothes has gone down recently so think twice before going back there.
  • I work as a supervisor in a high street retail store.

With a faulty item, if it is considered to not be a manufacturing fault, then you are entitled to your money back with or without a reciept.

The top going into the sale is a tricky one. Its SA discretion. They will have a computer system in the back that logs all transactions in store, ours goes back three months. It only logs the transactions for THAt store though so you will have to go to the store you bought it from, I assume most companies are the same. If you have your bank statement then they can easily find the transaction as they have the approx date (maybe even exact), total amount of transaction and the product code off your faulty top. It could be worth giving them a call first and asking them to searhc it in advance. Sometimes if we are exceptionally busy we are unable to spend time searching the computer, then again we are a very busy store and I work peak hours, so Asda might not have the same problem.

    Hope you get it sorted.
  • Feel real bad for you, ive tried to get a return on george clothing before... nightmare! I ended up having to take in my bank statement!
  • I bought a pair of jeans full price in asda about 3 weeks ago. In the first wash the button popped off. I returned them for an exchange but they did not have any left. Because I didnt have a reciept they were going to give me a gift card, however when she scanned them they were half the price I paid. She asked me if I wanted to choose another pair of jeans and if I did I could have the full value. Of couse I went with this option. Its not fair that some Asda stores have different rules than othes.

Its sales assistant discretion, unfortuantly. Its not different rules for different stores, but different assistants! There will be one overall rule of the company andringing customer services is always a good way of finding out what that is before you head to asda. If an item is faulty you are legally entitled to your money back in cash, not credit notes, the problem comes with sale items, as in this case a proof you paid the original price is needed. If someone challenges your right ot a refund politely as to speak with a manager, dont be rude as if people are rude with me I dont help them in anyway whatsoever and rather given them the official "line" whereas if the customer is nice I will suggest options and help.

has anyone rang customer servies for Asda regarding returning a faulty george item? I know in the compny I work for customer services are so scared of customers they say yes to anything! It never goes in the stores favour. You could ring up and say I stole a dress and its ruined where I pulled the security tag off I want money for it and they would still authorise it!!!! And customer services always overrides stores in the company I work for but not sure about other companies.
