Bank account for bad credit?

I have found many sites saying they can arrange a bank account with a highstreet bank who will cater for bad credit

Instead of paying £5 for this info, does anyone know who this bank would be?

I ave a lloyds account but after 5 years of being charged to !!!!!!y and possibility of my account closing when i request for the charges back i will need a new banking home....

my best guess is barclays so far

I think it depends what kind of facilities you're after. I've got a basic account with HSBc and I think natwest and co-op etc do similar where all you get is a cash card, no cheque book or debit card. Have a look on the bank account board, there are lots of details on there - I think it's a few boards below this one

most of the high streets banks do a Basic Bank that does not require a credit check.
as said above you dont get a cheque book or proper debit card (you may get a solo or electron card) and no overdraft allowed; but you can set up DDs.

make sure you open one with a bank that you dont owe anything to as they can raid your bank a/c if (say) you owe them money on a credit card.

I have just had a bad experience with the cashminder account from the co-op. I know its bad but I do hate the direct debit system. I thought two direct debits were going out on Friday, they were going out today and they have closed my account and ALL my direct debits (that were going out on Monday). I have had to take a day off work to sort it out. Luckily I had just opened a step account with the Natwest. In my opinion their internet access is second to none as it shows you real time what your outstanding balance is. This is excellent for someone as stressed and busy as me who hasn't got a bloody clue what she's doing obviously.

OP, don't pay anyone money for this information - there is a free leaflet published by the FSA available to everyone on the internet. Have used it myself, and both me and my DH are using it again to open new accounts.

Go here: http://www.fsa.gov.uk/consumer/pdfs/bank_account.pdf It is a list of all Basic Bank Accounts offered across the UK. Note that these accounts do not come with cheque books or overdraft facilities. Most come with cash cards to withdraw your money from cash machines and a couple do offer Electron cards.

Whoever it is that are charging you for this information are a disgrace. Just find the account you are interested in, go on to the bank's website, look it up and apply yourself either online or request an application form. Job done!

My sister paid for this info a few months back and the account was the "Step Account" from Natwest. Basically its a basic account with Solo card but if run well will upgrade in about 3-6 months as after the initial opening the credit score is done internally:confused: and not done by an external credit search IYSWIM.
