Public holidays and national insurance

I have been told that you do not have to pay national insurance on public holidays? I believe this originally came from the building industry, however I am not sure. However, I do know of one major nationwide company that does this. Apparently it saves both the company and the employee lots of cash each year. I can't find any further information on it and wondered if anyone out there knows about it?

New one on me, anybody with any insight. Could actually find this useful myself.
And who has ever heard of a builder who would work a bank holiday.0 -
Doesn't sound quite right to me.
Might have happened once upon a tim, but I'm pretty certain it doesn't happen any more - but I am willing to stand corrected
