30th Birthday Celebration Ideas

I have finally decided to celebrate my 30th Birthday (May 2010) instead of hiding as I originally wanted to... :rotfl:

I am part the way there with my plan but am still stuck for some ideas so any suggestions would be most welcome.

I plan to celebrate with my closest friends (totalling a party of approx 16) but cost plays a part for most of them who are either: newly married, re-training or recovering from redundancies last year.

I have already booked a camping barn in the Peak District for 1 night which will cost approx £6.50pp (bargain!) and want the experiance and the people to make the celebrations rather than anything expensive and fancy. As it is essentially like camping the amineties are limited.

I am thinking of a BBQ in the evening with drinks and mp3 players plugged into speakers but am looking for ideas on how I can make this feel really special (without being costly...) Not many of my friends know each other so I am also trying to think of things I can do to break the ice before the alcohol sets in...

Please help, it's driving me insane!!!

Thank you :j

how about some 'victorian' parlour games?

i did my friends joint stag and hen do a few years ago and got the ideas out of a very old book!
bang relay is fun - one paperbag (as to buy some from the sweetshop or healthfood shop, or greengrocers) per person, then each team starts of off sat on the groud with the paperbags under each persons bottom (only if dry!), equal number in each team, then at go the first person stands up, blows up the paper bag, pops it (with bottom if you have a couple of chairs or more), or with hands if not, and at the bang the second person can start.

also did the mummy game, couple of rolls of not too cheap loo roll per team and the quickest team to completely wrap their mummy, don't use value loo roll - it just breaks, better not to play than use it.. however, the looroll can be recyled after the game..

the spoon game, have a spoon and a long peice of string per team, the game is to race, person one puts the spoon up their sleeve, inside clothing down to toes, then person two puts the spoon up the leg of their clothes and out the sleeve and so on.

another one thats a bit risque is a pound coin per team and a pint pot on the ground, dambusters i think it;s called, with trousers definately on, grip coin in buttocks, arms out to look like a plane, run down room and drop coin into the glass on the floor, there must be a more pc name if anyone is offended by the name..

smarties on the floor, this is funny, people kneel and the smartie is put in front of them, the exact lengh of their forearm and hand in front of their knees. they need to pick up the sweet with their mouth and not put their hands down in front of them. this is funny esp. with the very competitive as there are a few gently bashed noses..

if any of these appeal let me know and i'll scout around for the book to see if i can suggest any more

have you ever played dibble dobble with a burnt cork? that can be fun..

  • Thank you for these, they sound like great icebreakers - particularly like spoon and smarties ones!

Would be interested to know what the dibble dobble one is
